E' stata inventata la pillola per dimenticare
Rome, February 16 (Reuters) - erase bad memories may no longer be just a dream. It swept away the nightmares of the past would take a pill already on the market, whose new use could be closer thanks to a Dutch study published in 'Nature Neuroscience'. The team from the University of Amsterdam has already tested an anti-hypertensive drugs available - the beta-blocker propranolol, a general - a group of volunteers suffering from arachnophobia, fear of spiders and found that it helps them to overcome bad memories of these insects and win terror.
The pill could therefore be 'cured' victims of post-traumatic stress, who have experienced tragedies such as bereavement, rape, or an accident. The bad memories remain long in ambush, ready to come back to haunt. Yet the ability to delete them one day, throwing down a pill has already ignited controversy.
I volontari sono stati poi divisi in due gruppi: uno prendeva l'antipertensivo, l'altro placebo, before anyone would repeat the same images of spiders. The tests to measure their reaction was repeated several times: after 24 hours, in the group treated with the drug was gone, the fear of insects and, therefore, even the unpleasant memory of trauma-induced shock. The Dutch team's next step will be to see how long the effect of the drug on memory and test it on people with phobias or disorders of various kinds, such as post-traumatic stress.
